Supported authentication methods
PrinterOn supports a variety of authentication methods, giving you the flexibility to adapt the PrinterOn service to your organization’s security model. You can also choose not to authenticate users at all, if necessary.

Inactive/None
No authentication is used. No login information is collected.
LDAP/AD
PrinterOn authenticates user credentials using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to communicate with an Active Directory (AD).
Internal Users (on-premise deployment mode only)
PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against the internal PrinterOn user store.
Azure AD (on-premise deployment mode only)
PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against an Azure Active Directory, Microsoft’s cloud-based identity and access management solution.
Third-Party Identity Management Service (on-premise deployment mode only)
PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against a cloud-based, third-party Identity Management Service (IdM), such as Ping Identity or Okta.
PrinterOn AAA Login (Custom)
PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against a designated web service to perform user authentication.
Web Print Only (SSO)
PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against a designated web server/service.
Note: To use Remote Authentication/single sign-on, your web server must authenticate the user and pass their identification to the PrinterOn Server with the REMOTE-USER HTTP header.
PrinterOn ACL (hybrid deployment mode only)
Authenticates the user's login information against PrinterOn’s user database during printing.
