Supported authentication methods

PrinterOn supports a variety of authentication methods, giving you the flexibility to adapt the PrinterOn service to your organization’s security model. You can also choose not to authenticate users at all, if necessary.

📘 Instructions

You can choose from the following authentication methods:

Inactive/None

No authentication is used. No login information is collected.

LDAP/AD

PrinterOn authenticates user credentials using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to communicate with an Active Directory (AD).

Internal Users (on-premise deployment mode only)

PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against the internal PrinterOn user store.

Azure AD (on-premise deployment mode only)

PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against an Azure Active Directory, Microsoft’s cloud-based identity and access management solution.

Third-Party Identity Management Service (on-premise deployment mode only)

PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against a cloud-based, third-party Identity Management Service (IdM), such as Ping Identity or Okta.

PrinterOn AAA Login (Custom)

PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against a designated web service to perform user authentication.

Web Print Only (SSO)

PrinterOn authenticates user credentials against a designated web server/service.

Note: To use Remote Authentication/single sign-on, your web server must authenticate the user and pass their identification to the PrinterOn Server with the REMOTE-USER HTTP header.

PrinterOn ACL (hybrid deployment mode only)

Authenticates the user's login information against PrinterOn’s user database during printing.
